With over 20 years of dental experience, Evelyn or “Evie” as she likes to be called is now assisting Dr. Reese in the front office answering phones and processing insurance claims. You might see her smiling face when you’re checking in or out of the office.

Evie is a certified medical interpreter and translator of Spanish, which allows us to now better serve our Spanish-speaking population. If you know of someone who speaks Spanish and has trouble getting dental care because of the language barrier, call Dr. Reese’s office at 317-882-0228 and ask for Evie.

According to Duke’s School of Integrative Medicine, a state-of-the-art healing environment in Durham, North Carolina, integrative medicine is, ” a new approach to medical care that brings patient and practitioner together in a dynamic partnership dedicated to optimizing the patient’s health and healing. This approach focuses on the whole person, recognizing that the subtle interactions of mind, body, spirit and community have a direct impact on vitality and well-being.”

Integrative medicine can quite simply be described as, ‘where traditional eastern medicine meets modern western medicine.’ For example, Duke not only teaches nutrition, fitness, and yoga, but also tai chi, meditation, and other eastern medical practices that help people to live better. In other words, integrative medicine means treating the mind and spirit, not just the body. Doctors who practice integrative medicine are sometimes referred to has holistic doctors, which simply means they keep the whole body in mind when treating a patient.

How Does Integrative Medicine Apply to Dentistry?

Holistic dentists are often referred to as ‘biological dentists’, which means, like Dr. Reese, they respect that the mouth is an integral part of the entire body. A biological dentist knows that dental treatments can impact the rest of the body and so they make decisions that have as little impact to the body as possible. Biological dentists like Dr. Reese do this by using biocompatible materials that will not adversely affect a patient’s immune system with an emphasis on building health and well being.
